Steve Clarke Signs New Scotland Contract Until 2026

Scotland manager Steve Clarke has signed a new contract to remain in charge of the national team until 2026.

Clarke, who was appointed in 2019, has led Scotland to their first major tournament in 23 years at EURO 2020.

The 57-year-old has also overseen a period of progress for the team, with Scotland now ranked 39th in the world, their highest position since 2008.

Clarke said he was "delighted" to sign the new contract and that he believes he has become a better manager during his time in charge.

"I'm really pleased to have signed this new contract," Clarke said. "I've enjoyed my time with Scotland so far and I'm excited about the future.

"I believe we have a good squad of players and I'm confident that we can continue to improve and achieve success in the years to come."

The Scottish FA chief executive, Ian Maxwell, said he was "delighted" to have secured Clarke's services for the long term.

"Steve has done an excellent job since taking over as manager," Maxwell said. "He has led us to our first major tournament in 23 years and he has also overseen a period of progress for the team.

"We are confident that Steve is the right man to lead us forward and we are delighted to have secured his services for the long term."

Clarke's new contract will see him remain in charge of Scotland until after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The next major tournament for Scotland is the UEFA Nations League, which takes place in 2024.
